We are well and truly in competition season over here in North America! January saw us travel to Steamboat Springs, Aspen Highlands and Vail with athletes from the Australian Mogul Skiing Academy (AUSMSA) and the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Development Team as they competed in the Rocky Mountain Competition Tour. The tour is held throughout Colorado, beginning in December and running through until late March with a strong and abundant field of development athletes.
The Rocky Mountain Tour is an excellent opportunity for the athletes to consolidate what they have learnt during training and put it into practice during competition, with a total of seven starts across the three separate event locations, including singles and dual moguls. We had fantastic results at every event with a handful of podiums and many Australian athletes finishing in the top ten in a field of approximately 100 combined men and women.
With three to four days of competition every week, there is very little time for appropriate rest and recovery. Appropriate guidance and hands-on treatment becomes incredibly important to ensure every athlete can compete and perform to the best of their ability. With little space to spare while travelling (and no room for a portable physio table), physiotherapy treatment if often carried out on spare beds or the floor of hotel rooms; and some athletes are held together with strapping tape by the end of the competition period."
We will keep you updated with more info and photos on Eliza's journey as a Physio travelling with an Australian sports team.
