Sapphire Coast Physiotherapy are pleased to continue our sponsorship of Triathlete Andrew MacNamara.
Andrew, originally from Merimbula, was recently named by Triathlon Australia as a member of the 2016 Australian Team to compete in the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Championships to be held in Mexico in September 2016.
We wish Andrew all the best in his preparation for this gruelling event!
Andrew MacNamara’s is an extraordinary story.
A budding swimmer, he was born in Bega and moved to Sydney to start University and become a school teacher and to pursue a swimming career.
After showing considerable improvement in the pool, Andrew was quickly picked up by Head Coach Tony Shaw at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre and was named on the Australian Junior Flippers team to tour Japan in 2009, with National Head Youth Coach Leigh Nugent excited with his prospects.
However a skiing accident in 2011 saw Andrew require bilateral knee surgery and spend 18 months on crutches.
“I thought back then it was all over and only for the physio team I would not have come back and done anything,” said Andrew, who proudly wears their logo on his suit.
“I was put back together and helped me through when all of my medical benefits ran out and then encouraged me to get back into sport and I did my first triathlon at Huskisson.
“It was an amazing experience and I am now hooked and I can’t thank them and my parents enough for helping me get to this point of my career.
“To be here competing for Australia is a dream come true".
Andrew represented Australia in the 2014 World Triathlon Champs and won a bronze medal in the Aquathlon Championships and came 7th in the Sprint Triathlon just 36 hours later.
Sapphire Coast Physiotherapy is proud to have Andrew MacNamara as their ambassador and pride themselves on providing world class physiotherapy to world class athletes.
