Jindabyne Winter Injury Prevention and Management Talk

Physio Eliza Graham recently presented to a group of Jindabyne athletes and teachers.

Snowy Mountains Physiotherapy’s Eliza Graham recently returned from three and half months abroad pursuing a dream.

Eliza was appointed Physiotherapist in Residence for the Australian Mogul Skiing Academy whilst the team trained and competed in America and Canada. Eliza was chosen above the large number of physiotherapists in the OWI (Olympic Winter Institute) group, a huge achievement and reflective of her skill and commitment toward physiotherapy for elite skiers.

“Mogul skiing puts enormous and unnatural stress on the skier’s body because the ankles, then the knees, then the thighs are continually acting like the shock absorbers in a car, and so there is a consistent ongoing demand for help from physiotherapists to keep each competitor in peak condition” explained Eliza.

The mogul skiing athletes ranged in ability from developing youngsters to World Cup and Olympic standard, each with their own pre-existing injury profile.

“I was responsible for assisting the athletes both on and off snow and worked very closely with their coaches and medical staff back in Australia to help manage each athletes training load and intensity, allowing them to train and perform at their best” Eliza told the Monaro Post.

“The experience was invaluable and I have gained lots of knowledge about injury management, prevention and concussion management that I have been able to bring back to my position as physiotherapist in Cooma and Jindabyne at Snowy Mountains Physiotherapy”.

The presentation covered common injuries with skiing, Injury and Injury Management.

The Injury Management and Injury Prevention information was not only applicable to snow sports but also very relevant for any sports played by children to adults. The presentation is suitable for parents, players, coaches, administrators and team first aiders.

If you missed out on the Jindabyne event, Eliza will be presenting the same talk on Wednesday 8th June at 6pm at Cooma Anytime Fitness Gym, Commissioner Street.
